Put Bed Bugs to Rest With The Proper Treatment!
Bed bugs have been all over the news lately. They’re attacking our favorite cities, hotels, and even our own homes. These little bugs, only about 5 millimeters in length, are causing a massive problem. How can you tell after a long day if the human-snacking bugs have infested your cozy, soft hotel bed or your nice comfortable bed at home? Better yet, how to prevent bed bugs? Well, before we can identify and attack our target, we need to know just a little more bed bug information. Then we can discuss the best bed bug treatment to target our opponent for destruction.
Obviously, we all want to obliterate the little bugs who wish to feed on us at night as their midnight snack. However, before we can get rid of them, we need to look for bed bug answers. Bed bugs are visible to the naked eye and a quick scan of the mattress can put you at ease. Bed bugs do not enjoy daylight, so if you’re like me and have trouble seeing in the dark, you’ll most likely be inspecting your mattress during the day or at least in the light. While inspecting your mattress, you will want to look in the folds and creases of the mattress, the places where the bugs might go to hide from the light. You may even want to turn your mattress over to find the bed bugs. The tiny bugs are reddish-brown, oval and flat. Also, red and brown spots are often indicators of a crushed bed bug or its fecal matter. Unfortunately, bed bugs do not only hide in beds. You will also want to inspect your bed frame, box springs, headboard, nightstand and drawers, picture frames and even cracks or crevices in the wall near your bed. Some people even go as far as to inspect alarm clocks, phones, and laptops as well. Happy hunting!
What Bed Bug Treatment Is The Best?
One possibility is a good bed bug spray. Well, now that we know how to identify the enemy, what should a person do when he or she finds the pesky buggers? Ah, yes. Here’s where the fun begins! Many bed bug remedies are available to assist in your fight against bed bugs. First of all, if you have found any in your phone, alarm clock or laptop, you will want to clean those items with a vacuum cleaner and then place them in a plastic bag with Nuvan strips. These strips will kill the pests without hurting your electronics. Next you will want to properly sanitize bed bugs. Start by vacuuming the sheets if any bugs are present. Next, wash the sheets in very hot water and dry them. You’ll be all set to go. While the sheets are in the wash, take your handy-dandy vacuum and try to vacuum every inch of every crevice in the room where the bed bugs were found. Vacuum the floor, baseboards, picture frames and wall art, shelves, and inside drawers and closets. When you’re done vacuuming, dispose of the vacuum bag by first sealing it inside a plastic bag and then throwing it in the trash. We don’t want those little bugs finding their way back inside! You’ll then want to repair any cracks in the walls and glue down any loose wallpaper. Getting your carpets steamed is also a good idea and you should do so before using any insecticides.
Now it’s time to tackle the big job of cleaning the mattress. Should you just throw it away and get a new one, or is it worth saving? Well, let’s go over the options. If your mattress has any tears or holes, you should probably get rid of it. The bed bugs are most likely infested deep inside the mattress in areas that would be next to impossible to treat. However, if your mattress is still in good condition and has no tears or holes, there’s no reason you shouldn’t hang on to it. So, you’ve decided to keep the mattress, but how should you go about cleaning it? Only use insecticides on your mattress and bed linens if the product specifically says mattress safety on these items. Whether or not you’re using an insecticide, a zippered mattress cover that fits snuggly over your mattress is a great idea. You can find these covers for all sizes of beds in many locations.
Now that you’ve rid yourself of any and all bed bugs here are some tips to prevent further infestation. First, when staying at a hotel do not place luggage on the floor near the headboard or bed. Secondly, inspect used furniture before buying it and placing it in your home because bed bugs will try to hitch a free ride back to your house through your great bargain. Also, inspect any homes or apartments before moving in. If bed bugs have already infested the room, your bed will soon be infested as well. Finally, be aware that any visitors staying over at your house may have brought some uninvited guests with them. This includes college students who are home on break and those lovely relatives who stay with you while visiting. If you suspect they brought any pests with them, do a quick sweep of the room after they leave and get rid of the problem before it spreads.
Now that you can successfully identify and treat bed bugs, perhaps we can all finally put them to rest. Sweet dreams!
